Digital cameras lens cover broke?

one of my digital cameras lens cover messed up and when i turn it on it stays down and i cant take a picture because half the picture will be black. Iv tried doing really stupid things like taping it but eventually the tape peals off. I really dont know what to do and i need help because my dad says he will not take it 2 a repair shop because it was my fault 4 not taking care of it. thx
